Where are you located?
The office is located at 12 Priest Hill Road, Vassalboro, ME 04989 in the Maine Family Natural Health building. There is limited parking in the back of the building and street parking in front.
What is your cancellation policy?
A 24-hour notice is required for cancellation of an appointment. Any appointments canceled or rescheduled within 24 hours of the appointment time will be charged in full to the card on file (with some exceptions). Massage/bodywork is not appropriate care for infectious or contagious illness. Please cancel your appointment as soon as you are aware you may have an infectious or contagious condition- if you cancel within the 24-hour notice period due to illness the fee may be waived. Appointment times are as scheduled and usually cannot extend beyond the stated time to accommodate late arrivals.
What should I wear?
Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client undressed; however, if you would be more comfortable clothed your therapist can work around that. Myofascial release does require direct skin-to-skin contact so it is recommended to wear loose clothing or a bathing suit. Please shower before your appointment and avoid using any lotions or perfumes; dry skin is preferred!
Will the practitioner be present when I disrobe?
The practitioner will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table, and cover yourself with a clean sheet.
Will I be covered during the session?
You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. You are welcome to keep as much clothing on as you would like; however your therapist may work around or underneath it with your consent.
What parts of my body will be massaged?
A typical full-body session may include work on any area of your body except the genitals and breasts- pecs, glutes, and abdominal muscles may be included as needed. For specific injuries and conditions, work may be limited to applicable areas to get the best results.
What should I do during the massage or bodywork session?
During the massage, take slow, deep breaths and make yourself comfortable; massage and bodywork are most effective when your body is not resisting. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, another blanket, or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask.
How will I feel after the massage or bodywork session?
Most people feel very relaxed. Many experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity; though this may take a couple days to fully set in. Occasionally you may feel worse before you feel better as your body adjusts to the changes. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days.
Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it's imperative that, before you begin your session, you have filled out a New Client Intake Form. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.
